About the authors:
Harsh Javeri
41 years of age, Harsh is in the textile business. He was the Hon. Secretary of MUC for three years, and is currently the Vice-President. The computer bug bit him in 1982 when he bought the Sinclair ZX Spectrum home computer, which he used for entertainment as well as office work. Ever since, his involvement in the field got deeper and deeper as he progressed from the level of an amateur to a power-user who could teach a trick or two to the oldest computer hand.

Harsh has been working extensively for last four years on IBM PC compatibles and has developed considerable expertise in various computer related fields. His work at MUC such as writing articles for the monthly newsletter, conducting demonstrations and workshops have brought him into close contact with hundreds of users and their problems, the latest one being the virus epidemic. He is thus eminently suited to co-author this book.

Suchit Nanda   https://suchit.net/profile/index.html
An electronics engineering student aged 22, Suchit falls in the category of a "computer whiz kid". He, too, started with MUC and the Spectrum home machine in 1983 and graduated to PC's four years ago. As part of his academic career, he has worked on several computer related projects.

Suchit has been an active member of MUC, having conducted several meetings and workshops, besides being a regular contributor to the monthly newsletter, Micro-News. He was the Advt. Manager in 1989 and is presently the Jt. Secretary and Chairman of the Word Processor Interest Group.

Harsh and Suchit have been working as a team for a long time. They have jointly conducted workshops on DOS, Hard Disk, WordPerfect, DOS Utilities etc. Their articles on a wide range of topics have appeared in several publications including foreign user groups' newsletters.

They have themselves been victims of viral attacks. And, time and again, they have watched it happen to hundreds of other innocent computer users who have lost megabytes of data, for lack of simple knowledge of how to tackle computer viruses. It is to disseminate this information to non-technical computer users that this book was born.

For the first time, an attempt has been made to systematically go "behind the veil" of jargon and mumbo-jumbo that shrouds the computer virus and present a clear, concise and lucid view of what viruses are, what they can do, and how to protect oneself against them. More importantly, the book explains to a layman computer user how to deal with a virus attack, with minimal loss of data.

This book is the outcome of a two year long concerted campaign against computer viruses, which consisted of articles, announcements, press releases, seminars, virus detector and vaccine development and distribution. The authors sincerely hope that this book will go a long way in dispelling fears, bordering on mass hysteria, that has gripped the personal computer user's world. If they succeed, it will be one more victory in the war against those who gain sadistic pleasure in destroying the work of others.
